How Does My Child Participate?
Participating is easy:
1. Register on the PledgeStar website: Go to www.pledgestar.com/groveland
Sign in using the passcode to set up your student's tracking page and follow directions to add multiple students.
If you choose to, enter email addresses for family and friends you would like to ask for donations to Groveland. *NOTE: All donations will be divided evenly among all children in a family if not specified by the donor. Please keep this in mind for prizes.
NOTE: YOU DO NOT need to donate or gather donations to participate! All students can earn prizes for READING only, without receiving donations, as long as they are registered on the PledgeStar website and enter their reading minutes by Wednesday, November 4 at 10 a.m.
Should you have problems or questions with the PledgeStar site, please contact them directly at 1-888-598-7510 daily 8am - 7pm PST.
Each student who creates an online tracking page and enters 20+ reading minutes by Sunday, October 4 at 8 p.m. will receive a bookmark in class that week.
2. If you choose to fundraise, please ask family and friends to pledge money in one of two ways. All pledges collected from parents, family and friends are 100% tax deductible:Pledge a one-time amount (e.g. $100 regardless of how much the student reads).Pledge a one-time amount (e.g. $100 regardless of how much the student reads).Pledge a one-time amount (e.g. $100 regardless of how much the student reads).
Pledge a one-time amount (e.g. $100 regardless of how much the student reads).
Pledge per minute read.
Please ensure pledgers have a realistic idea of what your child can achieve. For example: 30 minutes a day X 31 days X 10 cents/minute = $93. 60 minutes a day X 31 days X 10 cents/minute = $186.If the per minute option is chosen, you will need to let donors know how many minutes are read at the end of the read-a-thon so that they can complete their donation by November 3rd.
- 3. Log all minutes that your child reads or is read to OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS in Pledgestar starting with Thursday, October 1 hours. Be sure to log minutes, even if you don't get per-minute pledges, because students will earn prizes for themselves and their classes based on minutes read. Minutes listening to audio books also count IF your student follows the words on a device or hard copy book along with listening to the recording.
- 4. Collect your pledges – let your donors know how many minutes your student(s) read as soon as possible after the 31st so that they can finish their donations by Nov. 3rd at 10am. Every dollar collected is greatly appreciated by Groveland Teachers, Staff and Students.
- 5. Log all reading minutes on Pledgestar and make sure all donations are completed by Tuesday, November 3 at 10 a.m. to be eligible for your maximum number of read-a-thon prizes.
- 6. Don't forget to ask your employer about matching your contribution to Read-a-thon. Employer matching funds do NOT count toward prizes, but are greatly appreciated and further our fundraising efforts for the school!
